About Me

Recently you’d have found me photographing horses in a variety of locations in the Southwestern United States. I love dividing my time between Arizona and Colorado, and try to squeeze in a little California coast whenever I can. These stunning places have inspired me to put down my camera and pick up my paints!

In many ways it’s a natural transition from camera to canvas. Creating compelling compositions and using light to create depth and space are elements essential to both art forms.

I start my paintings using colors, shapes and lines that I pull from what’s around me. Then chaos ensues as layer upon layer is applied, scraped back and applied again until a rich and varied texture develops, always allowing glimpses of what went before.

My Process

I work intuitively, blurring the boundaries between abstract and life. Pulling colors and shapes from my surroundings provides the foundation to begin a painting. Letting unexpected marks and color combinations guide my next move results in a painting that feels balanced yet raw.

I paint primarily with oils on canvas. I adore adding oil sticks, they give a primitive feeling to my paintings and create a gorgeous texture.

Creating a sense of harmony that is restorative to the eye and mind while holding the viewer’s interest is what I’m aiming for as I work. My pieces have a contemporary feel that bring a modern element to any area they are displayed in.
